Ha! And you thought you could get rid of me, you pignut. Today we are onset at Drury Lane. My character Shylock, electrifies his unprepared audience with intelligence and pathos, courtesy of my charming interpretations. I believe that my work terrifies the audience while still reminding them constantly of the circumstances that pushed him to become the man he is. Before any other assumption, Shylock is a wronged father, who is severely belittled and capable of being a deeply feeling human being. A lightness in my tread, a buoyancy and elasticity of spirit and a fire of animation, tonight I hope to implore some pity from you ghastly fiends! And don’t forget, my applause rings from the minute I step onstage, to the minute I exit, loud an uninterrupted.
